Election Day 2019.
In case you are sitting on the fence trying to figure out where to cast your vote because you are disgruntled and you just aren’t quite sure, and where is that perfect candidate and you just can’t quite figure it out…..remember this:
This isn’t the Lannister’s and the Targaryen’s. It’s Upper Saddle River and the decisions aren’t global and monumental, but affect every single person. Taxes, house prices, environment. Every resident of voting age needs to be engaged and vote, to play their part in the democracy.
One resident shared their thoughts:
Today is Election Day. This is the one day that residents get to go out and have their voices heard. So for god’s sake, vote!
No candidate is perfect. There’s always going to be something that you can find wrong with them and sometimes neither candidate is ideal. This is why a lot of times people resort to just voting down their own party line. It makes it easier.
However, in Upper Saddle River this may not be the best choice this year, depending on your opinion of our Mayor. In my opinion it is time for change. Give someone else a chance.
Will they be perfect? Probably not. No one is.
But will they listen and respect you? Yes.
The point is though, no matter who you choose to vote for, just vote!
I’ve always been of the opinion that if you do not vote then you have no right to complain when things go wrong. We hold our elected official accountable. You voted, either right or wrong, you have every right to be upset and disgruntled.
But if you didn’t vote? Then you might as well be part of the problem. Not voting is a waste.
Claiming that you don’t have time or that it’s an inconvenience is just an excuse. While it is too late to get mail in ballots, there are ways to make sure your vote is counted even if you can’t make it to the voting box in November.
So for god’s sake, get out there and vote.
Just remember, it’s the people who didn’t vote and remained silent who allowed Hitler to get into power.
