As back to school beckons and everyone is enjoying the lazy last few days of August there has been a quiet flurry of activity in the Upper Saddle River area.

A letter from the Mayor was circulated on Swift 911 with an update to the Apple Ridge project. Read here. While discussing the soil there is no mention of the water run off that still occurs with every rain.
The installation of smart meters was also updated on the town’s website. Additionally the town lawyer has sent a letter about the proposed fees. Here and here.

At the town meeting the deer hunting ordinance was passed allowing for hunting for 6 months, 6am to 6pm for 6 days of the week. Unsure what methods of hunting are approved – anyone with an answer is welcome to comment.
Despite the highly emotional nature of this (both for and against) and the numerous discussions the turnout was not as hoped.
Mahwah
Mahwah residents are busy with the recall and a number of candidates have come forward. Hoping for an update soon.
!!!! Smart meters are being installed in Mahwah!!!! From several sources it appears that some (if not all) residents have not received a written notification of the change of meter, are having their meters changed and do not have a door hanger left advising them. If you live in Mahwah you might want to visually check your meter and see if yours has been changed – especially if you don’t want one.
People who have the smart meters are reporting their energy bills are higher (and not by just a little). From a comment on the Facebook group it appears that the energy company is charging customers to run the equipment connecting to the smart meters.
