In a staggering act of questionable decision making, and significant animal cruelty Saddle River announced at the Mayor and Council Meeting on Monday October 1, 2018 that the deer cull has started.
Rumors, questions discussions are over. It is here.
The money has spoken. In a stunning rebuke to residents who were opposed to this action the council chose to ignore the voters.
Residents have received the following letters:
- Authorization form to permit hunting
2. Notification that a neighbor has given permission to hunt.
What is missing from the information is when and where exactly the cull occurs. It can be assumed that protection of privacy is restricting information on private residences. However, what about the parks and open spaces?
UPDATE: Hunting will go on dawn to dusk and is currently on Plymouth Lane, W. Church Road, Lower Cross Road
Children, visitors, passers through all are in significant danger as there is no information available.
Bow hunting is a high velocity sport.
Injured deer can run for up to 3 miles.
Who will pay for potential damage to property, vehicles?
Too many questions, and not enough answers.
Until the cull is stopped, or serious clarification is given it might be safer to avoid Saddle River.
Don’t drive there.
Or shop there.
It is also worth noting that Rohsler’s Allendale Nursery has given permission for hunting on their property as part of it is in Saddle River.
Buy your mums elsewhere and forget the pumpkin picking.
A sad day for the bucolic and pastoral setting of northern Bergen county where apparently animals are an inconvenience.
I think boycotting businesses that support the Killings can be very effective I know it will be my strategy
Yes this is a good strategy. Hitting their bottom line might make them wake up and actually do something. Thanks for your comment!
As bad as it looks like one is certain. Saddle River administration discussed, discussed and discussed this subject for a long long time before had made this “fatal” decision. Now after the decision was made (we can agree or disagree) at least each neighbor is notified. However in case of Pleasant Brook/Saddle River pollution Mahwah, Ramsey, Upper and Saddle River residents had no implicit or explicit warning that their properties will be trespassed and polluted by pumping of millions of gallons of mud by Toll Brothers that containes remediated soil allegedly laden with arsenic and lead. As the owner of two properties located in Upper Saddle River I have never received any warning, any phone call or any letter that some construction company in the area will be pumping heavy mud onto my property. It was wrong on the part of Upper Saddle River and Mawah administration to allow Toll Brothers do so without any warning back in January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September and still is wrong 10 months later to pump this heavy mud onto our properties without proper warning, advance notifications and assurance that the mud is clean and that after the construction is finished (one day in the future) that mud will be removed, dredged/dugout or properly remediated from our properties. Shame, shame, shame on ALL parties involved in this unprecedented ecological disaster in our once bucolic communities.
