What you need to know this week
Meetings
A report of the last mayor and council meeting is available now thanks to Upper Saddle River News. Thankfully, you no longer have to wait a month to read them on the borough website. This meeting highlighted the fact that there are serious inconsistencies in the accounting practices in town. Democratic Mayoral Candidate Marshall Grupp questioned the town auditor at length for explanations. Somehow the town has skirted legality with some of their financial practices.
Politely avoided from this account is the on going derision of a town resident who is a vocal critic of the administration and it’s handling of Toll Brothers. Someone really needs to inform the administration what the 1st Amendment is about, not to mention that public meetings need to actually listen to all the residents, and egos don’t belong in public government.
Surprisingly with a slightly higher turn out for the meeting there were no real questions about the development at Hillside. The mayor did admit there is a survey or two going on and that they are waiting for more information. Meanwhile, over in Chestnut Ridge who knows exactly how fast things are progressing? No doubt they aren’t moving at a snails pace.
If the Hillside issue has caused some alarm bells to ring for you please note there is another mayor and council meeting this week – Thursday October 3 @ 8pm. Let’s see if they can figure out how to turn on the microphones for this meeting.
Hillside
CUPON of Mahwah who are presently acting on residents behalf have raised $6000 for their work fighting the Hillside development. As many readers have clicked through (Thank you!!) clearly this is an issue of interest. However, they still need donations!! There is a lot of work to do. This is in the early stages and EVERY SINGLE resident in Upper Saddle River needs to be aware and involved.
Election
Mark your calendars: Democratic Candidates for mayor and council – Marshall Grupp, Marc Garbar and Leandra Galasso will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting Thursday October 17 at the Upper Saddle River Library 7-8pm. Go and meet the candidates, ask questions and be part of the change that is desperately needed in town.
Voting
Make sure you are registered to vote!!! You still have time to register. Mail in ballots are out already, but there is still time. Make sure that any family members over 17 are registered – especially college students who can vote with a mail-in ballot. This election is important for Upper Saddle River. There are huge changes occurring, not all of them good. Every single resident of voting age needs to be involved and exercise their right to vote.
Last date to register for voting:
